ROBERT STEARNS

Born Aug 11, 1990

Played Soccer and other sports I wasn’t good at growing up.

Started learning ASL when I was 16.

Moved to Chicago when I was 18.

Worked as an American Sign Language interpreter for several years.

Quit this cushy-ass job with benefits because I hated it and everything in 2012.

Saw my brother in law get into Crossfit and learn to control his diabetes.

Hurt my rotator cuff trying to copy him.

Started doing yoga with my hurt rotator cuff cause it was next door.

Scored a discout in the yoga teacher training.

Fell in love with yoga.

Bought a building before I had finished my teacher training because I knew I wanted to teach yoga.

Spent almost 2 years barely practicing yoga for fitness trying to get the studio off the ground.

Went back to freelance interpreting and followed a Deaf Doctor around for 8 months while he completed his rounds.

Learned a shitload, got my shit together, build a website and declared it was time to teach.

I still look into the mirror everyday and lament my inflexibility.

I still practice some shit everyday. Currently building on my practice.

I was born in Southern Illinois and moved to Chicago when I was 18. After my plan to graduate college didn’t work out, I started a year long Yoga teacher training at Moksha Yoga in Chicago in the Spring of 2013. After learning way more about the classical practice of Yoga and the history behind it, I decided to use my knowledge as an American Sign Language interpreter to breakdown and regurgitate what I had learned about Yoga to people who were interested in either a physical or emotional practice without all of the typical yoga stuff that can make people uncomfortable. I love the “ohm” and the deep stretching and the impossible defying of gravity, but that doesn’t mean I’m good at it and I certainly don’t expect anybody else to be. I am not a vegetarian despite trying my hardest to quit pizza. And as a 5 time college dropout- I have an extensive history in excuse making. So whatever yours is: inflexibility, depression, work-addiction, drug addiction, sex addiction, Sanskit Illiteracy, or the love of dark meat and pizza- I understand those things and I promise, you can do and enjoy yoga in some form for yourself. Come for a quick intake meeting with me so I can see whats up with you and then you can see whats up with Yoga.

Come hang with me-whatever your level whatever your story- lets learn together.
