Human bodies seem simple. So do screws. On the surface humans are just sacks of skin and bones runnin around. And superficially, screws are things that come too many per package of some-assembly-required furniture and end up getting thrown away. To builders, screws are a little more than just things to throw away. They are used fasten things to each other. The screw is like the body. Both seem simple to many people when in fact they are both complex. Screws are actually a combination of two simple machines, an inclined plane wrapped around a wedge. Similarly, people are quite complex. Often I look at people on a surface level. But when you break down their complexity into simple parts like organs, muscles, emotions, history, and relationships, you realize just how much is being held together by such simple things. Like the screw, we are simple and complex. And by harnessing the power of duality, we can hold quite a bit together that is bigger than ourselves. And that is the power of yoga as union.
